Southwestern. A fertile, independent farm at St Josephs supports a community of Kooris in the Burragorang Valley. A focal person in this community, one of the Koori farmers, is Mary Toliman (or Tolami). She is also the midwife for the whole valley, caring for Aboriginal and white women in childbirth. She, like other members of the community from the families of Sherritt, O’Riley and Anderson, work outside the St Joseph’s farm for wages in dairying or agricultural labouring but return for work to their own farm in the busy season.
