These discriminatory measures reflect the continuing uncertainty of how best to deal with the “Aboriginal problem”. Responses range from hostility through humanitarianism to protectionism. The results include discriminatory policies which are introduced periodically and exist continually, although not applied universally until the 1970s. They include the forced removal of Gooris onto mission stations or reserves such as at Karuah and St. Clair (Singleton), the removal of Goori children from their families, the exclusion of Goori children from the public school system, exclusion of Gooris from the public welfare system, the exclusion of Gooris from award wage entitlements and the denial of Goori rights to land and cultural pursuits.
