From playgroup to Land Council: Janny Ely and Judy Chester
Auntie Janny Ely and Auntie Judy Chester recount how the playgroup at Green Valley grew into the Gundangara Land Council in 1982 (the first land council) and how many of the women sought training: Janny was funded through the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations. Kevin Cook became the first president of the land council and Janny was treasurer, then Chair. Amongst other things they helped with education, employment and getting people on the electoral role. Judy tells the story of her mother voting for the first time after the 1967 referendum.
