Burns Bay, Lane Cove
Burns Bay was many such sites along the rivers and harbour offering, at different times of the year, shelter, seafood and wetland produce. Wetlands in the nineteenth century were not seen as desirable area of residence by the colonists, which mean that Koori people could remain at such secluded bays out of sight, able to visit relatives in nearby coves unobtrusively and be near enough to the city to buy and sell produce.
Part of the nineteenth century social networking of the Burns Bay seasonal community was an annual trip to Cowan Creek by a foot track probably following the Lane Cove River, then up to modern day Pymble, before descending again to Cowan Creek.
