Coal and Candle Creek

A fishing camp of William De Serve, 1950s.

William De Serve (Uncle Willy) was known at this site, near Calabash Bay. We know it was a pre-invasion fishing site, as evidenced by a shell midden some metres above the water. Probably the site was occupied by a settler in the nineteenth century, then re-occupied by Koori people in the twentieth.

Dennis Foley used to visit the site in the 1950s with his Uncle Alwyn and Uncle Gar. Little remains of William De Serve's camp today.
