Fuller’s Bridge, Lane Cove

The weir at Fuller’s Brifge marked the spot which was always significant in Sydney Aboriginal life, the junction of the fresh and the salt tidal water. In the 1950s the Gai-mariagal Dennis Foley as a young boy was warned by his aunties that downstream of the weir presented great danger. He writes that the nearby Northern Suburbs Crematorium was before its construction, also an Aboriginal burial place. ‘This is a powerful place, a pious place. A place to be revered and respected’ (Foley 2001, p.19).
