Coolangatta
The Dharawal people of southern waterways of Sydney, particularly families from La Perouse, have always maintained their deep relationship to the Shoalhaven, South Coastal region. "Cullunghutti" (Coolangatta Mountain) is recognized and declared an Aboriginal place of great significance. Scottish pioneer, Alexander Berry was, in 1822, given land and convicts to establish the first European settlement on the South Coast. Berry established and held close & respectful relationships with local Aboriginal people including Charcoal, Broughton, Broger, Wajin, Couray and Old Settler. Several Aboriginal people can today trace their families back to these people and this place.
